We all know that Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrating the brother-sister relationship. And that\u2019s what we have celebrated in our life. <\/p>\n

You have been tying Rakhi on your brother\u2019s wrist on every Raksha Bandhan. But have you all ever got a question in your mind that can we tie Rakhi to husband? Maybe Yes, Maybe No.<\/p>\n

But, the answer is yes, you can tie Rakhi to your husband. <\/p>\n

How?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s understand the meaning of Rakhi first!<\/p>\n

\u201cRakhi is a thread expressing the promise of protection. The person who gets the Rakhi tied must protect the one who tied Rakhi to him.\u201d <\/p>\n

We will tell you two stories that will describe how the tradition of tying rakhi started. <\/p>\n

First Story<\/h2>\n

If we believe what our ancestors told us about the first-ever Rakhi, the answer to the question \u2018Can a wife tie rakhi to her husband?\u2019 is positive, meaning Yes.
\nThe story is related to Indra (leader of deities) and his wife, Indrani.<\/p>\n

There was a war being fought between the devils (rakshas) and the deities (dev) during the Vedic times. This war was fought on a full moon day in the month of Shravan (Raksha Bandhan is also celebrated on full moon day). The deities were losing as the devils were stronger. Indra was worried about the results, and he feared if deities lost the war to the devils, it wouldn\u2019t be good for the Earth. So, Indra decided to go into the war himself for the sake of the Earth. At that time Indrani got worried about her husband, and so she prepared an amulet and tied it on Indra\u2019s wrist.<\/p>\n

As believed by many, Indra won the war, and the amulet has been known as Raksha Sutra since that day.<\/p>\n

Now, you may be thinking if that\u2019s how the rakhi tradition started then how it changed to a festival of sisters and brothers? The second story will provide an answer to this.<\/p>\n

Second Story<\/h2>\n

If you have a deep knowledge of Indian Mythology, you know that Lord Surya (Sun) has three children- Manu, Yama, and the Yamuna. Out of the three children, Yama and Yamuna were born to Samjhna and Manu was born to Chaaya (the shadow of Samjhna). Samjhna went to her maternal home and left Chhaya behind so that Lord Surya would never know.<\/p>\n

Being a step-mother, Chhaya mistreated Yama and Yamuna. After some years, Yama came to know about Chaaya\u2019s truth. Being terrified to some extent, Chaaya cursed Yama with death and his body\u2019s mutilation. <\/p>\n

As the Yamuna really loved his brother Yama, she gets frightened after she came to know about the curse. To save her brother from the curse, Yamuna tied a Raksha Sutra on Yama\u2019s wrist which saved him from death. But Yama did meet the mutilation.<\/p>\n
